Grant awarded to the REMADISC project of PFERD-Rüggeberg, S.A.

The REMADISC project is a beneficiary of the call for subsidies for the promotion of the circular economy in companies for the year 2022 of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) in the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) financed by the European Union - NextGenerationEU.

PFERD RUEGGEBERG has implemented the REMADISC project ‘New method of recycling abrasive material for reuse in cutting and grinding DISCs’, whose main objective is to develop and implement new technological solutions to improve the treatment, management and reuse of CAM (composite abrasive material) that is currently discarded as waste in the group's production plants. The new solution is based on the specific reuse and recycling of composite abrasive material, contributing to the sustainability and circularity of PFERD's industrial process and guaranteeing savings in the consumption of raw materials and the costs associated with them.

To this end, a recycling plant has been conceptualised and developed by means of mechanical treatment, which allows the separation of CAM by granulometry, thus achieving the desired quality and properties without having to carry out further treatment. This allows the reduction of waste of up to 1,000,000 kg CAM per year, being able to reintroduce practically all of it back into the process, using disc formulations of around 30%, which is a historical milestone and a paradigm shift within the abrasive tools sector.

The results achieved are very satisfactory, as a unique process in the sector has been achieved that is capable of recycling 1,000,000 kg and being able to reintroduce them again in the form of products, with the same quality as the products usually marketed, reaching 30% of their formulation.
